In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Gloves of Hail of Thorns is a clothing gear from vendors in Act 1 that gives the player the Hailf of Thorns spell once per short rest. This level one spell shoots a volley of thorns and deals damage, then explodes on the enemy, dealing additional damage to them and surrounding creatures. If foes pass save checks, the spell will still deal half-explosion damage, making it a powerful option in the game’s early stages.
Classes that will benefit from it are Rogue, Ranger, Barbarian, or Fighter classes. You can equip it to your character’s hand armour slot in the inventory, providing additional bonuses and buffs. There are no proficiency requirements for this item.

How to Get The Gloves of Hail of Thorns in Baldur’s Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Gloves of Hail of Thorns can be purchased from Brem the Zhentarim Hideout or Derryth Bonecloak in the Ebonlake Grotto during Act 1. The gear costs 189 gold.
Find Brem in Zhentarim Hideout
The entrance to the Zhentarim Hideout is at the back of the building in Waukeen’s Rest mansion. However, before Brem opens his shop to you, you must complete the Missing Shipment Quest first; its location is marked on the map above, or follow the link for more info.
Once you saved the mercenaries from Gnolles in Missing Shipment Quest, head to the Hideout. The entrance to the Zhentarim Hideout (X: -127; Y: 619) is located at the rear of the building within Waukeen’s Rest mansion, accessible through a hatch. As you enter the barn, a mercenary named Salazon will present you with an ultimatum: demonstrate that you are a friend or face his lethal response. It’s now time to use the password you acquired from Rugan, so choose:
- Recite Rugan’s Pass-phrase “Little serpent, long shadow.”
The men will relax and permit you to pass, so search for the concealed hatch inside the barn leading to the basem*nt. In the basem*nt, on the north wall, your party should automatically succeed in a perception check. Unlock the revealed wardrobe, and it will unveil the hidden stairs leading to the Zhentarim Hideout.
Upon entering, you’ll find yourself in a new area with a fast travel portal. Be cautious of traps as you walk down to the central part of the cave. Finally, within the Zhentarim Hideout, seek out Brem, and you can buy Gloves of Hail of Thorns from him.

Find Ebonlake Grotto in the Underdark
To find Derryth Bonecloak, a vendor in the Ebonlake Grotto, you must go to the Underdark in Act 1.
To get the Gloves of Hail of Thorns, you must first enter the Underdark. There are a few entrances, including trying the Shattered Sanctum and Auntie Ethel’s house, but I’ll quickly explain how to get there through the Whispering Depths underneath Blighted Village. You’ll need the potion, scroll, or spell of Feather Fall, so ensure you have one before proceeding.
Set your course west from Emerald Grove, and you’ll easily find the Blighted Village and a well in the middle. You must pass an Investigation skill check of 10 DC, to use it and climb down to the Whispering Depths. Inside the cave system, there are giant Spiders and Spider Matriarchs (X: -543 Y: -366). You must defeat them first, so we advise you to reach at least level 3 so you’ll have no problem with the fight and surviving in the Underdark.
Buy the Gloves of Hail of Thorns
Once you are ready and defeated the spiders, you need to jump down the big tunnel (X: -543 Y: -366) leading straight down to the Underdark, and that’s when you need the Feather Fall spell. Use it so you won’t take any fall damage. In the Underdark, you must find the Derryth Bonecloak, a vendor located in the Myconid Colony. To reach it, head northwest from where you started in the Underdark. You will find her selling fantastic items.
